Gambling Normal or Taboo?
I’ve noticed that too—gambling is just another form of fun in some places, while in others it’s considered almost immoral. A lot of it seems to boil down to how cultures interpret luck and fate. There’s an excellent article https://boroktimes.com/money-and-luck-the-psychology-of-risk-taking-in-different-cultures/ called Money and Luck: The Psychology of Risk-Taking in Different Cultures that looks into exactly this. It explains how, in certain societies, gambling is seen as engaging with a “predictable” form of luck, while in others it’s viewed as dangerous or irresponsible. The cultural and even spiritual connotations are really eye-opening. If you’ve been curious about why these differences exist, it’s definitely a read worth your time.
I always assumed luck was just superstition, but this made me realize there might be a lot more to it. The way people view chance really does seem tied to upbringing and values. Super insightful stuff!
